UV innovation for problematic inks
Innovations for Labelexpo 2001: systems solution for inks which are hard to cross-link and cableless quick change UV lamps
IST METZ GmbH (hall 6, stand 6146)
During the show at Labelexpo Europe (26 until 29 September) IST METZ GmbH will mainly present the in practice established chill roll technology for extremely heat-sensitive material. Moreover, the company seated in Nuertingen has announced two further innovations in the UV sector. At the stand in hall 6 IST METZ will introduce the so-called Screen-Printing-Package (SPP), a UV system especially designed for inks which are under normal circumstances very difficult to cross-link. This is often the case in screen printing and when using decorative colours.
The special feature of the SPP system lies in its sophisticated coordination of all core components inside the UV unit, i. e. reflector, UV lamp and power supply device. The result is a system which due to its increased efficiency can cure very thick ink layers at clearly higher printing speeds and thus open up economic advantages. A particularly designed reflector geometry ensures constant cross-linking of the ink which also entails an improved adhesiveness on the substrate. When developing the system IST METZ cooperated closely with ink manufacturers to be able to offer specially doped lamps for this difficult application. Almost all IST UV lamp modules, version BLK and MBS can be upgraded with the SPP system.
The second innovation IST METZ will present is a cableless UV lamp enabling a lamp exchange in the UV unit without any kind of tool and within a few seconds. The UV manufacturer thus complies with the user's demands to reduce the periods of standstill for changing the lamp as well as the time required to clean the lamp and reflector to a minimum. These quick change lamps can be obtained in different output levels of 120 up to 200 w/cm as well as in all special dotations offered by IST METZ for particular applications. This innovation facilitates the handling enormously for the operating staff since there are no mechanical parts on the UV lamp module which need to be unscrewed and there is no longer any cable connection.
