UV Technology for high speed presses The BLK®-3 UV system meets the need for higher production speeds in UV web offset printing. In order to increase the production performance of web offset presses press manufacturers continue to develop innovative press designs that constantly increase the maximum possible web speeds. In order for printers to take full advantage of these new possibilities the modern presses must be equipped with an equally high performance UV system. IST METZ GmbH has developed the BLK®-® UV system, based on the well-established BLK®-2 technology, specifically to meet the requirements of these latest presses. The new system is equipped with the latest URS® reflector technology that allows increased production speeds in UV web offset printing. An important feature of high performance systems is effective heat management. Water-cooling of the shutters, reflectors and housing ensures that excess heat is removed efficiently from the BLK®-3 system. The integrated air-cooling system guarantees consistent operation of the UV lamp and also removes small traces of ozone from the system. The system can be equipped with active charcoal filters to purify and cool the ozoneous exhaust air. This can then be recycled back into the print room. This design does not require any exhaust air ducting from the print room. To ensure that the increased performance does not lead to an unnecessary increase in energy consumption the BLK®-3 system can be fitted with ELC® electronic control equipment. This contains integrated output controls and electronic controls that ensure safe production conditions as well as high electrical efficiency and low energy consumption. The BLK®-3 system is designed for use with UV measuring systems. The mobile UMS-2 UV measuring unit allows each user to control the production parameters and the UV output as required. The UV system is also designed for use with the latest FLC® (Fast Lamp Change) lamps which reduce lamp changes to a matter of seconds.
