The concept worked: With the sixth edition of UV DAYS, IST METZ not only promoted its own technology, but also related it to recent developments on the printing market that demand from customers to find a balance between printed and virtual media. A service much appreciated – especially the multifunctional packaging manufactured in UV sheet-fed offset printing was very well received by the visitors. It appeals to all the senses using various high-quality coatings and an embossing realised in a printing unit.
The packaging comprises three components: a tin can with self-adhesive label, a transparent paper with zig-zag fold and the actual outer packaging. A high-quality salt from the company Altes Gewürzamt GmbH Ingo Holland is the product packaged. Integrated into the packaging is a transparent paper that was printed and finished in UV. If the can holding the salt is removed, the folded box is transformed into a table lamp by simply pulling up the folded transparent paper and switching on the integrated LED tea light.
To demonstrate the possibilities for the combination of printed and virtual media with an example, the IST METZ App was developed. With it, the multifunctionality of the packaging can be communicated. If the bottom of the packaging is scanned with a smartphone or tablet PC using the IST METZ App, a 3D animation of the object is displayed on the mobile device which shows how to transform the packaging into an ambient light.
„We are extremely satisfied with the course of UV DAYS. These four days gave us the ideal opportunity to bring our innovative idea of a packaging to potential and existing customers”, says Dirk Jägers, Managing Director of IST METZ, about the event. The 26 partners that could have been won for the exhibition area at UV DAYS also declared themselves satisfied with the large amount of interested visitors and new contacts.
